That is sweet.
I want to do the same thing on the front and sides of my 180 as a cat shelf, but the place we put the tank won't allow it. Too tight already :(

I have 125g frag tank and want to make a new stand for it. 72x16 footprint, but the stand I want to make with 72x24 footprint.
So of course in this case one wall of the tank would be up in the air. So i've added another beam in the stand going across right where second wall of the tank would be hanging in the air, as well as added vertical legs on the sides to support it.
Another extra thing that I'm thinking about adding aside from the beam in the middle is a sheet of plywood over the top to spread weight around a bit.
Top frame is 2x8, rest is 2x4.
Do you think that middle beam is needed? will plywood on the top help at all or perhaps can replace the middle beam idea?
So here are few pictures of how tank will sit on the stand as well as stand from a few different angles. Had fun learning AutoCAD a bit heh...

Yeah I basically want more space under it, current stand is made out of oak and fairly nice but it's so skinny inside and out of 3 sets of doors only middle one doesn't have a leg in the middle so it's impossible to put anything big enough for top off container. With 6x2 base I'll be able to easily pop 45g tote in there for that purpose.... if fact could fit probably two if I were to plumb them together heh
The design looks good to me. I would definitely include the additional beam, as direct support of the tank edges is indicated. Very nice graphical rendition too.
